When we arrived, this bull was tied to this tree, and we were told that he was to be the food supply for the weekend for everybody. About 3 am a couple of guys killed and butchered it, and by morning we were having him for breakfast. I guess you could say that this bull "entered the ministry."

Yours truly chowing down on assorted cow parts for breakfast the next morning. Some of it I recognized and some I didn't--which was probably just as well. But it wasn't too bad.

The ladies of the church did a wonderful job preparing all the meals for the group. This is a shot of the "kitchen" where much of the cooking was taking place over open fires. Very smokey!

This lady was carrying a bucket down the hill to the kitchen area on her head with no hands!

The shower and toilet facility for the meeting. The front compartment is where people took a bath by getting a bucket of water and tossing it on themselves. The back compartment is the toilet consisting of the bottom of a porcelain toilet, with no seat and no water tank. You flushed it by pouring a bucket of well water down it.

Where the meetings were held one evening before services started. The actual church at Encinal is in the background, and it was way too small and too hot for the meeting. So somebody went to a lot of trouble to put up this shelter. It was made of a framework of branches stuck in the ground and then tied together with other branches to make a frame. Then pieces of tin were placed over the top of it. It was really pretty nice as it kept you in the shade and allowed air to circulate. Although it's been cool in Cordoba, it was very hot in Encinal.

Another shot of the meeting in progress. Note how everyone tries to scoot their benches over into the shade! I don't blame them a bit.
